When You Come In (Before Bell Rings)
1.     Please initial next to your name on the clipboard.
Ø Please get out your orange sheet packet.  We’re going to fill out the reflection, then turn it all in.

(5-10 minutes) Organization
1.     Reflect and write.
2.    Staple (after making sure everything is in the correct order).
3.    Place your packet in your name folder in the file cabinet.

(15 minutes)  Reading Assignment (page 6) and Earthbook
a.    Read and relax .  (This means you read for enjoyment.
b.   If you’re reading a piece, and you stop enjoying it, turn the page!
c.    Did you find a piece you thought was really strong?  Or really funny?  Then record it on page 6.
d.   Can we finish page 6 today?

(25 minutes)  Collaborative Writing Assignment:  Group Cliché Story
1.     Review the grading criteria below.
2.    Continue and finish your story today. 



Cliché Trio Story Requirements/Grading
1)     Yes            No       We used as many clichés as possible to create a fictional story.
2)    Yes            No       We boldfaced the clichés so they stand out from the story.
3)    Yes            No       We used least four sentences of dialogue in quotation marks.
4)    Yes            No       Type between one and one and a half pages.
5)    Yes            No       We doublespaced our story.
6)    Yes            No       We used paragraphs to indicate shifting ideas.

(20 Minutes)  Writing Experiment #3: 
2nd starts @ 10:40

Directions:
1.     Select one of the following writing prompts.
2.    Use it as a springboard into your own MEMOIR (a true story about a memory of yours).
3.    Try to include details from the fives senses.
4.   Use your Vocabulary Variety sheet for help with strong word choice.

Grading
1.     YES/NO  The piece is a minimum of 400 words.  My word count is in parentheses beside my name.
2.    YES/NO  I used paragraphs to show my shifting ideas.
3.    YES/NO  I used the correct MLA format for heading.
4.   YES/NO  I doublespaced the whole piece, and printed it two-sided.

Option 1:  The Big Event
Ø When a special event is on the horizon, people plan for it and get excited about it.  Maybe it’s a dance, an election, a family event, a party, a birthday, or an important sports game.
Ø Think of a special event that you planned for a looked forward to that turned out much differently from what you expected.  Write about what you expected would happen and what actually happened.

Option 2:  Holiday Cheer
Ø What is your favorite holiday?  What is your least favorite holiday? 
Ø Write about two memorable holiday experiences, one from your favorite holiday and one from your least favorite.

Option 3:  What a Fright
Ø There’s “fun scary” (walking through a haunted house, screaming through a horror movie, riding a roller coaster) and then there’s “scary scary” (being in a car accident, getting caught in the ocean’s riptide). 
Ø Describe the scariest experience you’ve ever had.  Was it fun scary, or was it really terrifying?


HOMEWORK:  

  • Complete Writing Experiment #3 (which we had 15-20 minutes to start in class).  
  • Print it.
  • Have it ready to hand to me when the tardy bell rings Tuesday.
