                                                  Day 11—Reading

When You Come In—Do these things before the tardy bell, please.
1.      Initial attendance on the clipboard on the front table.
2.     Grab a copy of “The Monkey Garden” and a highlighter.
3.     Pick up your book and daily reading sheet.
4.     Tell me if you need a book chat today (because you’ve finished a book).

Strategy Practice:  Visualizing
1.      What is it?  You tell me!  J
2.     Why does it help you be a stronger reader?  You tell me!  J
3.     Remind yourself of the five senses:  smell, taste, touch, hearing, and sight.

What You Do
I will read aloud from the chapter "Monkey Garden" from Sandra Cisneros' The House on Mango Street.
1.      Highlight details that help you VISUALIZE the text.
2.     Make a question mark where you have questions about a word or are confused.
3.     We’ll stop and share #1 and #2 periodically.

c.     TOTAL PAGES READ.
2.     Rate yourself. (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)
3.     Put your pink sheet and book over on the table where it was when class started, unless you’re reading outside of class today.

3:15      Last Five Minutes of Class
·      Paper pass-back
·      Binder organization
o   Organized by section
o   then by date order, oldest first, newest towards the back.
