Writing Workshop: Simile Poem
(Brainstorming, then Typing Draft #1)
1. …remember
when we made similes out of the list I put up on the screen?
2. Create
your two-column list with “=” in between each comparison. Review our “Life = Football, 2012” file from
Friday.
3. You
must have at least FIVE pairs listed before you start typing your poem.
4. Look
at the similes (comparisons) from last term “Simile Poem Comparisons”.
5. Follow
the steps on the handout for creating this poem, which we will revise on
WEDNESDAY.
6. A
typed copy is due when you go to lunch today.
Before You Go to Lunch
1.
Print
your poem. Make sure your title is “Love
= ______” for now! J
When You Get Back from Lunch
1.
Get
your poem off the circle table.
2.
Staple
the brainstorm list to the back of it, then hand it in.
3.
Get
a blue Fifty-Word Story off the circle table.
Writing Assignment #2: Fifty-Word Stories! (x 3)
1. Grab
a blue assignment sheet.
2. Read
over the requirements. How are we incorporating
showing, not just telling (Big Idea #1) and Diction (Big Idea #2) in this
assignment.
3. Refresh
our memories to where these are on google docs, because you’re going to need to
go there and read.
4. Check
out some examples from last term/last year.
5. Write
three of your own. Feel free to mix it
up between fiction and non-fiction!
6. Due: as directions at the bottom state, at 1:15
today.
