When You Come In
·       Please sign in.
·       Please pick up a blue vocabulary sheet.

Journal Quote (Today’s Theme:  Words)
·       Write for ten minutes on ONE of the following quotes.  Write the quote in your journal before your start your response, please.

“Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.”                                                       --Buddha

“All our words from loose using have lost their edge.”
--Ernest Hemingway

“Words are but symbols for the relations of things to one another and to us; nowhere do they touch upon absolute truth.”                                    --Friedrich Nietzsche

1.      Cut out the vocabulary words neatly.
2.     Tape or glue them on notecards.
3.     Look up the definitions in trios (seven trios), and DISCUSS each definition carefully.
4.     DECIDE on the strongest, most appropriate definition, until everyone KNOWS what the word means.
5.     WRITE the correct definition and part of speech on the back of your index card for that word.  Most definitions will require two or three sentences.

·       Vocab Game Time—we’ll start slowly so as not to injure anyone….

·       Read and annotate (one annotation per page, minimum) They Say/I Say, pages 28-46.  This is good stuff for the paper we will start writing tomorrow.
