Writing Lesson: Showing, Not Just Telling:  PERSONIFICATION (p. 36)
1.      You may ask, why bother with figurative language?
2.     Here is an answer, an actual Example From a Sense Poem from last year:

The irridescent sunset creeps behind the towering oak trees,
playing hide and seek with the moon

APPLICATION:  Use personification to make the imagery stronger in the pieces you revise today, and the pieces you revise the rest of the term.


Revising YOUR SENSE POEM!
  1. Pick up a rubric, so you can revise today with the targets in mind.  This is the FINAL DRAFT, the knock-out version that’s going in your portfolio.
  2. What are ways we know how to revise, from the very smallest part of a poem, to the poem as a whole?
    1. letter sounds
    2. words
    3. phrases/images
    4. line/sentence
    5. stanza
    6. whole poem
  3. Re-read the doc entitled, “Advice for Revising and Editing Poetry,” but don’t type on it.  Make a copy, if you want to type on it.  Use this advice this week as your revise your poems.
  4. Re-read your SENSE POEM.
  5. Read my comments to you, and consider them carefully.
  6. When you finish revising your SENSE POEM, complete the rubric, turn it in to the drawer.
  7. Leave your typed poem it in the class folder for me to read, please.


WORK ON THE GRAMMAR ASSIGNMENTS IF YOU FINISH BEFORE I START THE NEXT ASSIGNMENT!
