When You Come In
·      Initial attendance on the clipboard on the front table.
·      Grab the pink and blue handouts there.
·      Grab your pink daily log sheet and your free reading book.

o   Has anyone else been taught a reading strategy in another class?

o   You tell me when you’re instructed to use a strategy on a reading assignment!

Housekeeping
Make-up reading sheet.
·      Where should you put this, so you’ll have it when you need it?
·      How will I grade it/give you credit for your make-up reading?

Six-Way Paragraph
1.      Blowing Their Tops—do this on your own, then READ AND RELAX FOR TEN MINUTES, until everyone’s finished.
2.     Pair-share to doublecheck your work.  We’ll check it as a class after that.  Started at _____; ending about ____?
a.         Reading Strategy #1:  Read the questions first!  (Give yourself purpose.)
b.         Reading Strategy #2:  Consider the title, before, during and after reading.
c.          Reading Strategy #3:  Annotation—write notes on the text as you find details you need.

Strategy Practice with Bookmark Journal #1—Purpose Explanation
1.      Make a PREDICTION.
2.     Consider the meaning of the TITLE.
3.     We have thirty-five minutes today for Read and Relax. This will give you time to READ, THINK, and WRITE.

4.     Please turn in your ORANGE bookmark journal (with predictions and title) to the drawer.
