Mid-Term In-Class Essay Exam Preparation (Start by 12:30, at the lastest.)
Essay #1 (40 minutes in class Thursday)
·       What does a good reader do?
·       Create an outline stating the three most important things a good reader does.  (This is your opinion.  This is an argument.)
·       Use one specific detail from Nabokov’s essay for EACH of your three main points.  (This will be the “They Say” part of your essay.)
·       The outline is due at the end of class today, and you may not use it for the in-class essay tomorrow.

What You May Use, Besides an iBook
·       One notecard with THREE direct quotes from Nabokov.
·       I will come around to your desk tomorrow and check your notecard to make sure you have only the allowed quotes on it.
·       Staple it to the back of your essay when you hand it in.

Structure
1.      Thesis  (its own paragraph; it will only be one sentence long)
2.     Three body paragraphs
3.     Thesis restatement (its own paragraph; it will only be one sentence long)

Homework to Prepare for In-Class Essay Tomorrow
·       Practice re-writing your outline at home.
·       Make sure your organization and thinking are clear.
·       Make sure your thesis and thesis restatement are memorized.  You don’t want to waste time tomorrow working on your phrasing.
·       Make sure you have the strongest quotes possible on your notecard.
